Notes:
This piece explores the literary concept of the “Chekhov’s Gun” through a quote from Murakami’s novel 1Q84. In the novel Tamaru discusses the Chekhov’s Gun principle with another character. In the conversation both start wondering if the gun in the story (the novel itself) is going to be fired, breaking the fourth wall. During the beginning of the piece glimpses of this conversation are going to appear in the musical texture spoken by the ensemble and through the electronics. Once the conversation is over a fragmented reconstruction of the text will emerge, making us wonder whether the “gun” is actually going to be fired.
