SPIRIT WOMAN SONG is an operatic aria and also highly reminiscent of an American Indian song. “Spirit Woman Song” is performed in its entirety using only American Indian “vocables.” American Indian vocables are syllables that form an intertribal way of communicating feelings in songs. In the opera workshop setting, the Spirit Woman character was an ethereal figure one might consider as mother earth.
